Volunteers
Volunteers are a critical part of the hospice team which recognizes that dying is not just a medical event but a personal one as well. Many volunteers report that helping terminally ill patients is more about living fully than dying.
There are many opportunities for volunteering with Affinity and there are no age restrictions. The only requirement is that volunteer candidates complete the Hospice Volunteer Training Program, which is offered free of charge. Information regarding the periodic volunteer training opportunities can be found by calling your local office.
Hospice volunteers have a wide range of activities that are patient-specific and can include things such as: visiting or having a silent presence, writing letters, taking walks, reading, supervising visits with pets, support for primary caregivers, grocery shopping or light housekeeping. Being a volunteer does not mean that direct patient care is required. People are unique and sometimes their skills are more suited to administrative or office work, so volunteering in the office is an option as well.
